About the TBI Team

The Oregon Traumatic Brain Injury Team is a multidisciplinary group trained in pediatric brain injury, funded through Oregon Department of Education’s regional programs for low-incidence disabilities. Oregon TBI team members work within their districts, counties, region, and across the state to support educators and families of students with TBI.
Team members consult with school-based groups to assist in meeting the needs of students with TBI in educational settings. Oregon TBI Team members also provide capacity building on topics such as:

  • The effects of traumatic brain injury on school performance
  • 504 & Special Education process and eligibility for students with TBI
  • Behavior management
  • Social adjustment
  • Educational accommodations
  • Instructional strategies
  • Transition planning

Oregon TBI Team members provide consultation on topics such as:

  • Locating resources and information about specific concerns

Brain Injury Awareness Month

March is national brain injury awareness month! Starting this week, and continuing throughout 2010, the Brain Injury Association of America is launching a nationwide education and advocacy campaign: “A concussion is a brain injury. Get the facts.”
Sports-related concussion is a big topic in the news these days, and rightfully so. When a person – especially a child or adolescent – is recovering from a concussion, the brain is at particular risk for further injury.
To keep healthy and safe, learn to recognize the symptoms of concussion, and take plenty of time to recover. Find more materials and information at: www.biausa.org/biam.htm
